2nd - 4th Grade
Santa Clarita Before School & After School Programs

Moving into this group is a big step for many of our younger school age children.

Kids are starting to move away from being a kindergartener or 1st grader and are starting to feel like “big kids’.

Here at SCATZ, we help guide them through this stage by:

  • Establishing daily routines that children can follow.
  • Teaching children not only good homework habits, but also good study habits.
  • Showing the children how to become responsible with homework and other priorities (at this stage homework becomes more involved, and more assignments/projects are given by teachers).
  • Having a reward system to show children how to become more accountable.
  • Helping children develop strong social skills.
  • Helping children form strong relationships with their peers, friends and adults in their lives.
  • Having children participate in activities that get more challenging as the year goes by.
  • Showing children that it is possible to go beyond their own expected limits. The sky’s the limit here at SCATZ!!
  • Each child’s ideas are valued and incorporated into our everyday activities.

By the time they go into the 5th - 8th grade room all of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders will be more responsible, independent and well rounded individuals.

A Quick Glimpse of What Our Daily "School Day" Routine is Like:

Homework

  • Once our 2nd and 3rd graders get to SCATZ (about 2:30pm) the first priority is homework.
  • Our staff monitors and guides children to complete their homework in a 45 min to an hour block of time.
  • Our Staff does not complete your child's homework, we help them promote independence by navigating through the words, ideas and problems a 2nd and 3rd graders might not understand. Our children can truly say they completed their own homework!
  • After Homework time is complete the children enjoy a healthy snack of fruits and/or veggies.

Playtime

  • Where they play an array of group games that help our 2nd through 4th graders with developing fine motor skills and how to play on a team.
  • Some of the games they play would include soccer, handball, capture the flag, baseball, zombie tag and other team sports.

Activity

  • Where the children learn about cool things in science, art, math, literature, and history.
  • Activities include rock candy, experimenting with different states of matter, math races, word master, charades and much more.
  • After the children have enjoyed their time doing activities and playing games we come inside and unwind with card & board games, computer learning games, fun drawings/coloring.
  • As we say our goodbyes to our little friends when their parents come in, and we let our parents know all the fun things we did that day, and what fun and exciting things we will do the next day!
We then get ready for another fun filled day!
